Every morning, after I get dressed and my coffee is ready, I head to my little patio space in the back of my apartment building and sit in the stillness. This spot is where I begin my day with the Lord (except in the dead of winter). Some mornings the skies are cloudless with a deep blue hue, other mornings are partly cloudy and some mornings the clouds are deep, dark grey because there is a storm brewing. But, there is one constant… the little birds I feed year round. As these little creatures sit on the feeders chirping and singing captivating melodies, I realize just how defenseless and harmless they are. Then I am reminded of what we are told by Jesus…
“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10: 29-32
I rejoice in the knowledge of just how much we are loved. He loves all of us so very much, it’s difficult to comprehend! Yet it is REAL— and TRUE— and HONEST— and PURE! Because we deserve it? NO! Because it is His character.
1 John 4: 7-10 says “ Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
