If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this.
C. S. Lewis
Here’s an excerpt of a message by evangelist Luis Palau: ” When I lived in Mexico City, my next-door neighbor was a young television personality. We would chat from time to time, and he even mentioned that he listened to our radio program occasionally. But I didn’t share the Gospel with him. After all, I thought, he seems completely immune to the problems of life.
Eventually, though, my neighbor changed. The joy seemed to have left his face. He and his wife started driving separate cars to work. I could tell their marriage was souring, and I felt the need to talk with him, but I didn’t want to meddle in his life. I went about my business and headed off for an evangelistic crusade in Peru. After all, that was the polite thing to do.
When I returned home, I learned my neighbor had killed himself.
I was heartbroken. I knew I should have gone to him and persuaded him to repent and follow Christ. But because of false courtesy, because I followed a social norm I didn’t do it. It’s very convenient to make excuses for not persuading others to follow Christ. We may say we don’t want to be overbearing or offensive. We may think we can’t possibly witness to someone because he or she will become angry.”
I read this message quite some time ago… but it stuck with me, because I know all of us as Christians (true followers of Jesus Christ) face challenges or have issues in sharing the Gospel with virtually anyone. I’ve heard so many reasons why believers don’t share the Gospel… it breaks my heart.
Friday afternoon my dear friend’s husband passed away. I have openly requested prayer for him here on my site several times. I had one opportunity to openly share the Gospel with him, but he questioned the validity of Scripture. Several times when my friend would come to visit, I would send her home with something for him to read. He was an avid reader. Do I know if he knew Jesus Christ as Savior when he passed? No I don’t.
Yesterday during our church service, we had a missionary we sponsor speak. He showed a short 5 minute video of the people they minister to in Tunisia, a Muslim/Islam country (99.8% of the people). At the end of video, across the screen was written “During the time you watched this short video over 1,600 Muslims died and went to hell”. I burst into tears… How could anyone not?
I checked the World Statistics and found as of August 1, 2012, approx. 105 people die every minute; 6016 every hour; 151,600 every day!
My message today is simple… we who know the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of our Father in heaven NEED to search our hearts in the mirror of God’s Word, with much prayer. Are we following our Savior’s commandments.
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Luke 10:2
” Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” John 4:35
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5: 18-20
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Mark 16:15
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” John 3:16-18
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:9-19
I will leave you with this song/video! Please be prayerful of how, whom, and when our Lord would have you speak the truth to the lost. My prayer each day is ” Lord, please give me the right words, at the right time today to share the Gospel of salvation… In Jesus Name I asked, giving you the glory, Amen”
