I enjoy this time of year of year when I’m able to plant a few vegetables and flowers in the little garden spot I have behind my apartment. Last week as I “playing in the dirt” (I love it!) I had to get down on my knees to sow a packet of Spring Bloom Mix flowers. I have my own way of cultivating, with small garden tools, making each step of the planting process deliberate in order to produce a successful plants, productive plants. The day was warm and sunny, the birds were singing gloriously and then I began to relate how this planting was like sowing the seeds of the Gospel.
Sowing the seeds of the glorious Gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ should first begin on our knees. When we approach the Throne of Grace with a humble, meek spirit and ask the Father to prepare the soil, He will answer . “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish , but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
A simple, yet deliberate prayer each day could eventually produce fruit for the kingdom of heaven.
“Dear Heavenly Father…please give me the right words, at the right times today to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with whoever You bring my way. In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

Matthew 13: 1-8 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but hen the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
What a wonderful, powerful illustration and message. Some day we’ll “see” the harvest of our (the Lord’s) sown seeds. Thank you.

Oh yes…that day! In the meantime, gonna just keep sowing awaiting the Lord’s harvest. I thank those from the days past who continued to sow those seeds my way. Thanks be to their faithfulness to God, I accepted salvation through for myself. I want to be a faithful sower as well… for the glory of God and the Kingdom of heaven!
Bless you

I too love playing in the dirt and getting on my knees to find the first fruits of seeds sowed weeks before. Like prayers, they may start out small . . . but our God is so much bigger and before you know it . . . the blossoms of His promises start to emerge and we see the new life that He brings.

Beautiful post! I really needed the reminder that it all begins on our knees at the feet of Jesus… not long after we have already attempted to “plant” things on our own without coming to Him first. Thank you!

Thank you Anna…I KNOW I needed the reminder, which is why the Lord so gently reminded me when I was playing in the dirt. I had to share.
Blessing to you!

Beautiful example of the prime need in sowing The Seed. If *I* set out to sow Seed, it will come to nothing, but if I set out, depending on the Lord to lead me to the person He chooses, and to give me His words to speak and His loving heart, THEN the Seed will spring into life.
Spending time with Him each morning is essential if we want Him to use us through the day. Thanks for the reminder.

I am glad you enjoyed it Anna. And I do believe each seed we sow for Him and the Gospel message needs as much “knee work” as does the planting in a garden.
