“In the Garden” is a hymn I remember from my childhood that resonates clearly with me after fifty plus years. It reminds me not only my need to be still in Almighty God’s presence, with His Holy Word and a prayerful spirit, but the indescribable joy and peace it brings. The lyrics to Charles Austin Miles hymn are a blessing~
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
I know for a fact, as a mother of seven children, it’s impossible to hear anything clearly in a noisy, chaotic and fast-paced environment. Don’t you agree? As followers of Jesus Christ, are we able to hear spiritually from the Lord when in that same environment? I know we can’t! There is a definite need for today’s Christians to make sure we have “Garden Time” everyday! After all, the LORD told David in Psalm 46:10…”be still and know that I am God…” I believe being still is our intimate, one-on-one time with our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus.
Jeremiah 29: 11-13 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
This is a recurring theme for me/to me lately. By the way, I, too remember that hymn from my childhood.

must be the Holy Spirit!! If we don’t have that beautiful, restful and refreshing time with our Lord and God… we are missing the most important relationship of all. Thanks again Chrystal for stopping by and it blesses me to know it blessed you!

Getting up long before everyone else in the house, in order to have my time “alone” with God was a discipline I started when I had a family. It has been such a blessing for so many years, that many years after my family is grown and have their own families, I still continue.
What a privilege we are given to spend time with our loving Father, who DESIRES to meet with us!
What an amazing God!
