Prayer NOT Politics

Recently I have spent a considerable amount of time reading, researching and studying the Word about this subject; in earnest prayer.  I am more than aware that I’m wading into deep water and some readers may be offended while others may even ridicule me, but oh well…  When my Lord Jesus and Heavenly Father urge me to write… I do so!   It matters not what any one person thinks of me.
With His grace, this is intended not to offend, but to promote a positive relationship with other members of the Body of Christ.

I’m seeing a very startling trend across our country.  Many people believe that if we change from a liberal, Democratic president to a supposed conservative, Republican leader, our country is going to be fixed or is on the mend.  Nothing could be further from the actual truth.  I see some prominent Christian leaders  actively involved in political organizations that they believe will change this country.  I believe that is the WRONG path!   Here is why…

1 Thessalonians 5 gives us warnings, admonitions and commandments, which we need to read and heed: I pray as you read this chapter, that you do so asking the Holy Spirit’s discernment and for our Father’s leading through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.  For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.  While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.  For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.  So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.  For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.  But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.  For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.  And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.  See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.  Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  Do not quench the Spirit.  Do not despise prophecies,  but test everything; hold fast what is good.  Abstain from every form of evil.  Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.  Brothers, pray for us.  Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.  I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Many conservative, Republican Christians daily are slamming our president, our new candidates for office and our Supreme Court.  To me it is a disgrace to the name of Jesus Christ.  They like to  use 2 Chronicles 7: 14 “ if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  The land the LORD spoke of here was the promised land and the people His chosen people, the Jews.  I know this entire passage in 2 Chronicles and the entire Old Testament was written (as breathed out by God) for learning, correcting, instructing in right living and for doctrine.  I know that God never made a covenant with America!  Praying for the government is godly wisdom, but we have a much greater task— being obedient to our Lord Jesus commands and His example.

I  urge every one who reads this entire post to stop and asks the Lord…   “Is America going to be changed by politics or by the power of the Sovereign Creator and our Lord Jesus Christ?”  Yes I believe we are to represent out Savior and God above all else. Yes I believe in being involved in our communities. But I also believe God is the one who allows things that are for His eternal plan for mankind.  Blessings to all  ♥ Streim  (This was originally posted on August 12, 2012.  I have made some edits for several reasons.)

There is joy, hope and peace in knowing the Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Everyday is a new day to share the the glorious Gospel message of grace and forgiveness; the blessings of hope; the Father God's eternal promises; and the importance of living daily in the will of God according to the Scriptures, especially now with the world in chaos and uncertainty. My life before I repented of all my sin, was washed clean by the blood of the Lamb of God-- Jesus Christ and was born again; was one of utter selfishness in every aspects of my life. I lived for ME and only me! Now I live for my Lord and soon coming King, rejoicing daily. I earnestly desire to share the message of the Gospel, encourage sisters/brothers in Christ by fervent prayer and studying the Holy Scriptures more each day. 1. What a breath of fresh air, Stephanie. No nation or people will ever be changed by politics or politicians…only by the power of the Sovereign Creator–Ruler over the Realm of all mankind…and our Lord Jesus Christ. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

    I’m with ya, Stephanie.

  2. Not being an American, I do not follow the American elections with any intensity. (For a start, Aussies cannot understand the process. The election of our Prime Minister is a 6 week campaign with a very simple procedure.)

However, one cannot be un-aware of the American elections. I have scanned many blogs and comments about the ‘religion’ of the major candidates, with disagreements about who is what and whether or not either is a Christian.

While I would love to see a truly Christian President (Prime Minister) who upholds the Christian focus, I do not believe this is the MAJOR determination of qualifications.

We each have a responsibility to pray about our vote, to cast our vote, and to pray for our elected governments at all levels.

I agree with you that politics/politicians will not change our country. Only God can do that, and He will work in response to the prayers of His people.

America, Australia, and the world are in desperate need of His intervention.

Time is running out. We are one day closer to His coming.

    1. Thank you Angela for your comment! Time is running out… and we as Christ’s followers and adopted ones of the Father need to agree in prayer for not only our nations… but for the world. Making sure “our lamps are trimmed”!

“If we will mobilize and pray, we will see Him work”
I think this is a simple truth that so many overlook 😦 May our hearts be stirred to seek Him. Earnestly.

    1. So very true…maybe we need to first pray for God’s people, that the Holy Spirit would stir their hearts to pray.

Thanks for your comments and be blessed Ann!

    1. And thank you Jen. Reaching out to teens and young adults about the message of “true love”. This group is so wanting/needing something (Someone) ti fill that “hole” within. I pray you will continue… and when the days become too much for remember what is written in 1 Peter 5: 7-11 ” 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  5. I agree we should pray without ceasing and for all things including America. I also like your post. I followed the link and was extremely curious what AGAIN means in “a standard of righteousness be raised again in this land”? What time period are we praying to be restored? Native America was violently stolen from the natives, the puritans had witch hunts, greed and slavery of the civil war…I love America but I don’t ever recall a “period of righteousness” in my history books. Did Jesus come back and leave again?

    1. Thank you so much Karen for stopping by and reading my post. We are praying for a revival in the church (Body of Christ) worldwide, not only in America.
The time periods you are questioning about are called the Two Great Awakenings. They were not periods of righteousness but periods of
revival within the American church beginning in the the 1800’s. The first was led by Jonathon Edwards. I’m not a theology student, nor do I have a degree in Bible. If you would like precise answer to your question just google Jonathon Edwards or George Whitefield. Also there is much online information regarding the second great awakening. I am sure your pastor or an elder would be more than willing to help you further.

Finally to answer your last question…NO our Lord Jesus Christ did not return and leave again! He is coming again and we should be ready according to Scripture. One way to ready ourselves if “humble ourselves in prayer before Almighty God!
      May you be blessed.
      Stephanie
PS: I know we don’t read about these in our history books, and yes I do agree about the treatment of the native peoples of this country.

  6. Thank you Stephanie for the clarification and opportunity to learn. Any effort that gets people praying is good. I’m working on remembering that prayer is a conversation requiring listening.

As part of the revival George Whitefield advocated for the relegalization of slavery in Georgia stating it was instituted by God. Both awakenings boast of bringing Jesus to slaves-putting me out of my comfort zone. Seems very crusade like-not missionary or grace filled.

I will continue to pray for our leaders, discernment & the return of our Lord (prayerfully I won’t miss it or be late) Christ’s Peace, Karen

    1. You are welcome Karen. I know that not all things done in God’s name bring glory to Him. Just as I know that even as a forgiven child of God, I myself still makes bad choices.
Your last comment makes we wonder…

You will not miss the Lord’s return or be late if you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. If you have accepted the “gift of God” which is the perfect atonement through the shed blood of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. He died as a perfect man, yet He was God in the flesh… the only way for an atonement to be made for all mankind so that we may belong to Creator… our Father in heaven.
If you accept your need for atonement, have humbled yourself before God and repented and have asked Jesus Christ to be YOUR Savior… then He is!
You won’t miss His return… just continue to abide in Him. Reading His Word and praying. I know from my own experience, there is NO hope or peace in this life without Jesus, and assuredly no hope for a future beyond the death of this body.
Any time you would like to know more and I can help you… please let me know.
In the precious name of the Only Beloved Son of God… Jesus may you be blessed

      Stephanie

  7. Prophecy must always fulfill itself. It matters not who the leader of this nation is, because ultimately, God is in charge. Also, there are a lot of misled “Christian” leaders “even the elect shall be led astray…” Again, prophecy must fulfill itself..and it will..and it does not make a difference “who” it is… but “what time it is”…and if it is God’s time, well then, it is what it is. God bless you Love Jesus! Thanks for the enlightening post!
